Mon 07 Auckland - Dubai

Depart Auckland on Emirates Airlines for Bucharest, Romania with a connection in Dubai.

Tue 08 Dubai - Bucuresti

Arrival at the airport in Bucharest where your Romanian guide will meet you and accompany you to the hotel. Rest of the day is free to relax and unwind from the long flights Hotel Ramada Parc - 4 star (D)

Wed 09 Bucuresti - Tulcea

In the morning you will have a city tour in Bucharest. Bucharest is known as the "Paris of the East" for its elegant boulevards, sprawling squares, countless monuments and the Arc de Triumphe. Impressive is the mixture of different architectural styles, ranging from classicism to the plate architecture of communism. Among the most important monuments count: the Patriarchal Church (exterior visit), the triumphal arch, the Athenaeum and the Parliament Palace, the 2nd largest building of the world after Pentagon (interior visit). Further you will leave Bucharest, driving in the East direction to the beautiful city of Tulcea at the Danube Delta’s Gate. The Danube Delta is located in the north side of the Romanian Black Sea Coast and is a unique paradise, which can be visit by boat, starting from Tulcea. Hotel Europolis - 3 star (B,D)

Thu 10 Danube Delta

After the breakfast you will get to know the Danube Delta. Your boat trip will start in Tulcea and then cruise through the channels until the fishing village from the Mile 23 Chanel (lunch in the village, with the fishermen). After that the trip will continue through the narrow channels to Fortuna Lake’s Pelican Reservation and then along the Nebunu Lake, where a lot of birds are to be seen. Then through the Mile 35 Chanel back to Tulcea late afternoon. Hotel Europolis (B,D)

Fri 11 Tulcea – Constanta – Mangalia – Balcic – Varna

In the morning your trip will bring you to Constanta. Here you will get to know the city during a tour. Constanta is the largest port city in Romania. Here you will visit the Archeological Museum, the Casino and as well as the Turkish Mosque. Then your trip will continue in the south direction, heading to Bulgaria. During the drive you have the opportunity to see the Romanian seaside resorts on the Black Sea coast. After driving through Olimp, Neptune, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, you arrive in Mangalia. Called by Greeks even before Christ, Calatis, the city still has a local flair. Drive across the Bulgarian border to Balchik. The most famous attraction is the castle of Balchik, which used to serve as a summer residence for the Romanian Queen Maria Alexandrina Victoria of Edinburgh (1875 - 1938). The residence was built in 1924. After the visit your trip will continue to the Golden Sands. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Cherno More - 4 star (B,D)

Sat 12 Varna - Burgas - Nessebar - Kazanlak - Tryavna

In the morning your trip will bring you to Burgas. City tour in Burgas, a city with 3000 years of history. Burgas is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria and has much to offer: you will be able to admire the Cathedral of St. Cyril and Methodius and the Armenian Church, both built in the 19th century. Further the trip will continue to Nessebar. The old town of Nessebar is an open air museum and complex monument of urban architecture. With its significant monuments and unique location, the city has been included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage. You can visit “The Old Nessebar” exposition which is held in the Nessebar Ethnographic Museum. Then you will visit Kazanlak. Kazanlak has made a name for itself as the city of roses. For more than three centuries, the famous rose oil has been cultivated here, which has given the local rose oil masters worldwide fame. Visit to the tomb of Kazanlak. It is believed that here Rhebulas - a son of the King Thraker Seuthes III. - found his last rest. The tomb was created at the beginning of the 4th century BC. Sun 13 Tryavna - Plovdiv - Bansko

After the breakfast you will have a city tour in Tryavna and then go for an easy hike in the Balkan Mountains than surround the city to the 600 years old Bozhentsi village. Then drive further to Plovdiv - the second largest metropolis of Bulgaria. City tour in Plovdiv, during it you will visit the old town, the Roman amphitheatre and the excavations from the Thracian period. In the afternoon arrival in Bansko, dinner and accommodation. Mon 14 Bansko - Rila Monastery - Sofia

After breakfast drive to the Rila Monastery, which is under UNESCO protection, and the place of pilgrimage of the Bulgarians with millenary tradition. It is considered the most magnificent landmark of Orthodox faith in Bulgaria. This masterpiece is the work of construction workers, woodcarvers, icon painters and nature. During the visit, you will learn all that is worth knowing about the history of this unique complex in periods of prosperity and legal privilege, but also of fires and looting. Here you will get the chance to look into monastic cells and be fascinated by the colourful frescoes and icons of the monastery of Sveti Bogoroditsa. Further drive to Sofia, the main city of Bularia. Sofia is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Archaeological finds prove traces of settlement already in the Neolithic period (8th millennium BC). In the 5th century BC, the Thracian tribe of the Serden founded the settlement of Serdica in the area of today's city centre. Here you can visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Banja Bashi Mosque. Worth seeing are also the Roman rotunda, the Central Mineral Baths and the Roman excavations. You will also visit the National Historical Museum. Tue 15 Sofia - Arbanassi - Veliko Tarnovo - Ruse

After the breakfast your first stop will be in Arbanassi, where you will visit the old Orthodox Church. Further drive to Veliko Tarnovo, the ancient capital of Bulgaria, which is picturesquely situated above the steep banks of the Jantra River. You will see colourful residential buildings, churches and palaces with staircases, towers and walls. In the oldest part Tsarevets, are still the remains of the once gigantic tsarist palace from the 13th and 14th century. The Tsarevets fortress will be another point of attraction for you. In addition to the history, you will also get acquainted with the Bulgarian traditional craft by visiting the Samovodska Chardja (The Street of the Craftsmen). Hotel Teodora Palace - 3 star (B,D)

Wed 16 Ruse - Cozia Monastery - Sibiu - Bazna

In the morning you will drive in the north direction, back to Romania. First stop will be at Cozia Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Romania. From here you will continue the trip along the picturesque Olt-Valley, through the Red Tower Pass, where once was the border between Transylvania and Wallachia. In the afternoon arrival in Sibiu, where you will have a sightseeing tour. Thu 17 Bazna - Sighisoara - Biertan - Boian - Bazna

After the breakfast your first stop will be in Sighisoara. Sighisoara is the most beautiful and best preserved medieval city in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque style, in this part of Europe. The high density of the architectural monuments, the public buildings, the fortification walls, the defensive towers and the apartments that make up the complex give the castle the appearance of a unique, well-composed complex of buildings of inestimable historical value. Here you will visit the Clock Tower and the Birthplace of Dracula. Your next stop will be in Biertan, where you will visit the largest of all the fortified churches from Romania. Here was until the 19 century also the residence of the Protestant bishops for Transylvania. Here you will enjoy an easy hike to Copsa Mare In the afternoon your drive will bring you to Bazna, where the horse-drawn carriages are already waiting for you, for an excursion to the fortified church in Boian. Fri 18 Bazna - Targu Mures - Bistrita

After breakfast drive to Targu Mures, the largest town of Szeklerland. Visit to the Palace of Culture, the largest Orthodox Church in Transylvania, and the Citadel. Then your trip will continue to Bistrita. City tour with the visit to the Protestant church (built by the Transylvanian Saxons in the 14th century). Hotel Krone - 3 star (B,D)

Sat 19 Bistrita - Viseu de Sus - Bistrita

Day trip to Viseu and then with the Forest railway into the mountains (including lunch and drinks). The forest railway Viseu de Sus is the last remaining forest railway in Romania. This 760mm forest railway goes along the water valley passes through a huge and until today largely untapped area part along the Romanian / Ukrainian border. The route begins in Viseu de Sus at the sawmill and leads in a constant climb over 43 kilometres up to the border with Ukraine in Comanu. In the afternoon return to Bistrita. Hotel Krone (B,D)

Sun 20 Bistrita - Moldovita Monastery - Voronet Monastery - Iasi - Chisinau

In the morning you will drive over the Tihuta Pass into the Bukowina (Buchenland). Here you will visit the Moldovita Monastery, one of the most famous monasteries for its exterior murals paintings. Here you will be introduced to the symbols of the Orthodox faith by the nun Tatiana. Next you will visit the Voronet Monastery, also known as "Capella Sixtina" of Romania. Here you can see a very beautiful representation of the "Last Judgment". The monastery became famous for its basic colour, an intensive blue blended from ground lapis lazuli. Your next stop will be in Iasi where you can admire the Trei Ierarhi Monastery. The church was erected between 1637 and 1639 and became renowned for the extraordinary lacery in stone which adorns the facades. Mon 21 Chisinau

Today you are going to explore Chisinau during a city tour where you will see all the highlights such as the building of the National Opera and Ballet, the government buildings and the many churches that this city has to offer. During the afternoon you can continue exploring the city on your own or you can also participate in a wine tasting in the famous Cricova Cellar, the biggest cellar from Europe. Tue 15 Chisinau - Piatra Neamt - Lacu Rosu

Your first stop will be at the Neamt Citadel and the Tower of Stephen the Great. Then you will arrive at Neamt Monastery - The complex dates from the 14th century, but the monastery church was built by Stefan the Great in 1497 after his victory over the Poles. After you will leave the Moldavian region and drive toward Transylvania, along the Red Lake through the breath-taking Bicaz Gorge. The Bicaz gorge is about 5 km long gorge. Near the pass was created in 1838 by a landslide that dammed the river, the Red Lake. Wed 23 Lacu Rosu - Prejmer - Predeal

Today your drive will go further in the south direction. In the afternoon you will get to know the fortified church Prejmer. The fortified church was used in addition to the religious practice of the resident village or local residents as a retreat and defensive construction during war times. Thu 24 Prejmer - Zarnesti - Bran - Rasnov - Brasov - Predeal

In the morning you will go to Zarnesti. Here you have the opportunity to visit the Bear Conservation Centre in Zarnesti. On a surface of 70-acre forest the animal welfare organization "Millions of Friends" established here the sanctuary. Here you will get the chance to learn more about the 65 liberated bears living here. Your trip will continue to Bran, where you will visit the Bran Castle (Dracula). The steeple and loopholes were built in the 14th century and served the inhabitants of the nearby Brasov city as part of their protective belt against the Ottomans. The romantically situated castle was in the interwar period residence of the Romanian queen Maria but is today a museum. You will also enjoy a hike in the nature to Rasnov Citadel, located on a romantic hill. Further the drive will continue to Brasov. The city was founded in the 13th century by the Knights of the Teutonic Order and was for centuries an economic and intellectual centre of the Transylvanian Saxons, who constituted until the 19th century a majority of the population. During the city tour you will get to know the most important sights. You will see The Black Church with its Buchholz Organ (inside sightseeing), the medieval city wall around the historic old town with stylish late medieval town houses, the Town Hall Square, the Old Town Hall (inside sight), the unique Sting Street (the narrowest street in Romania), the Catherin’s Gate and the small hidden Orthodox church in the centre. Fri 25 Predeal - Sinaia - Bucuresti

Drive to Sinaia and visit the Peles Castle, the summer residence of the royal family. In 1866, the first king of the Hohenzollern family came to Romania and he decided to build a castle in German Renaissance style in Sinaia, on the banks of the Peles Brook, to remind him of his homeland. Nearby is the monastery of Sinaia, built by orthodox monks who came from the Sinai Peninsula. Drive to Bucharest. Visit of the Village Museum (where you can admire traditional built houses from all over Romania). In the evening festive dinner at the restaurant Caru‘cu Bere. Hotel Ramada Parc - 4 star (B,D)
